Aims and Objectives of Little Explorers Day Nursery
Here at Little Explorers Day Nursery our aim is:
- To create a happy, relaxed, safe and stimulating atmosphere for all children within our care and to support their learning, to enable them to fulfil their potential
- To establish a clear sense of social, moral and ethical values for our children to help them grow into mature, caring citizens
- To work in partnership with parents in an open and honest way and to maintain flexibility when meeting the individual needs of our children and their families
- To provide a quality care and education for pre-school children by creating a developmentally appropriate curriculum to meet the needs of each individual child
- To welcome each child and their family, regardless of their life experiences, into an environment that includes values and respect and which supports them
Early Years Foundation StageEach member of staff is responsible for the physical and emotional needs and well-being of the children within our care, and all take responsibility in delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum.
The Foundation Stage is based around 7 areas of learning;
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication & Language
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts & Design
A Key Person Scheme is operated at the Nursery, which means that a named member of staff is assigned to an individual child to support their development, record observations, complete their Learning Journeys and act as a key point of contact with their parents.
The Nursery is essentially open plan; there are 2 play rooms divided by an arched wall and enclosed by a 2 meter safety gate. The purpose built design was based on the need to ease transition for babies moving into the toddler room. Through the open plan design, babies are already familiar with ‘BIG’ room and its key workers.
This room caters for children from 4 months to 2 years. The room can accommodate up to 12 children at any one time. Babies in our care will receive loving, individual stimulation and attention. We aim to provide a consistent standard of care which leaves you, the parent, confident that all your child’s requirements are satisfied. Everything in this room allows for babies to explore and discover new and exciting resources and experiences.
The Baby Room features a huge Play Gym to help develop physical skills, as well as a Home Corner to encourage the development of language and communication and a Black and White cosy corner and safe crawl area for tiny babies. All toys and resources are accessible at children’s level allowing them to make their own choices.
A range of indoor activities are planned to encourage the development of cognitive skills and babies have their very own garden for outside play to further stimulate physical development. Babies have their own Night-time inspired quiet room, a Nappy Changing Station and Milk- Kitchen and staff ratios are always maintained.
We provide a daily written account of changing, feeding and sleeping routines for all children based in the Baby Room to ensure continuity and consistency between home and nursery.
We ask our Parents to provide a few items for babies under the age of two:-
- A change of clothes
- Comforter if appropriate
- Sealed formula milk
- Own bottle
- All weather bag (Sun cream/Sunhat/Wellington Boots/Rain Mac)
This room caters for children between 2 to 5 years and can accommodate up to 38 children at any one time. It has been designed specifically to meet the growing and active needs of this age group. The room is open plan, with integrated stations, to meet all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Children can express themselves through Role-Play in the extensively equipped Home Corner and the large Construction Area with Small World Activities which encourages fine and gross motor skills. There is a variety of activities and creative resources and the children’s very own Art ‘Choose it yourself’ trolley and double sided easel.
The Toddler Room boasts a super cosy quiet corner with its own library and a giant Sand & Water station. Children also have access to carefully selected resources at the Maths station, Literacy station, Fine-motor skills station, and Understanding the World station.
The emphasis is still always on play for the children based in this room, but adult-led activities are encouraged twice daily.
Those children aged between 3 and 4+ will be introduced in a gentle manner to all necessary skills required to assist them in acquiring building blocks for their future. We introduce children to pre-reading and writing skills and provide them with the opportunities to obtain an understanding of numbers, shapes and colours. These new skills will equip them for transition on to more formal education.
The Toddler Room also has its own ‘Night Inspired’ Quiet Room, which plays host to a Sensory Room, where tactile resources, sensory lights, smells and specially selected sensory resources add together to create a calm, relaxing environment suited to all age groups. Toddlers also have their own en-suite Bathroom, with a Nappy Changing station.
We ask our Parents to provide a few items for Toddlers:-
- Nappies (If appropriate)
- Change of clothes
- All weather bag (Sun cream/Sunhat/Wellington Boots/Rain Mac)
Our fully enclosed Garden is a little sanctuary within an urban area.
Babies have their own Garden with a sandpit, sensory planters, play house and slide and a shaded area. Babies have access to a variety of physical and socially inspired outside resources and rides on cars.
The Toddler Garden is a large lawned open space providing children with the freedom to experience the great outdoors and the opportunity for exploration and investigation.
The Toddler Garden houses a beautiful wooden play house, wooden den and slide, herb and vegetable planters, a sandpit and fully equipped mud kitchen. It can be used for a variety of physical and creative activities for children including bikes, scooters, road safety, balls, mark making, gardening, den building, mini-beast investigating, team games and much, much more!
Undercover Decked Area
Our Nursery has an undercover decked area which runs the length of the Nursery building. This allows all Nursery children outside access every day, during all weather conditions. Children can use this space as an extra room and experience creative, social and physical activities.
We maintain our staff/child ratios at all times during supervision of outside play and all activities are risk-assessed, ensuring complete safety and security for all children.
